ACTSHEON™: Ditch the Balance, Design Integration That Works for You

Mar 19, 2025

Let me share a secret with you: I’ve never found work-life balance.

Have you?

Despite what mentors, gurus, and glossy Instagram quotes claim, it’s not something you stumble upon between a green smoothie and a meditation session. For most women—especially those leading, building, caregiving, and dreaming—it’s not a neat 50/50 split.

More often than not, “balance” feels like a moving target—and work tends to take the lion’s share.

Yes, ambition is beautiful. Drive is powerful. But when your personal life, your health, and your relationships are left gasping for air, something’s off. Chasing a picture-perfect version of balance can be quietly destructive. Not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because you’ve been handed the wrong framework.

Let’s call it what it is: work-life balance is a myth. And it’s time to drop it.

Try Something Better.

I teach and live by a more empowering, practical approach: work-life integration

This isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It’s the art of weaving rest, connection, and self-care into your day, not after it. It’s how you show up fully in all parts of your life, without burning out in the process.

And yes, it is possible—whether you’re in a corporate office, managing a remote team, or running your own business.

Start here, with five small but powerful shifts you can make today:

1. Nap Like a Boss

If you have a quiet space—your car, a break room, a cozy chair at home—use it. A 15-20-minute nap during lunch can reset your brain more powerfully than a double espresso.

Many top companies (Google, Nike, PwC) even encourage napping. Why? Because well-rested humans lead better, solve faster, and live longer. So let go of the guilt. Your future self will thank you.

2. Move Your Body. Shift Your Mood.

Whether it’s squats between Zoom calls or a walk around the block, movement fuels clarity. Personally, I used to do squats while mapping out personnel strategies—it grounded me and got my blood flowing.

Even standing up and stretching your arms to the sky like a champion sends your brain a “you’ve got this” message. Try it. It works.

3. Love on Your People

Text someone you love. Video chat for 5 minutes. Or if you're close enough, drop by for a hug. Human connection isn’t a luxury—it’s medicine. And those small moments remind both you and them that you're more than your job title.

4. Say Yes to Something You’ve Been Putting Off

Scroll through those travel photos. Put a deposit down on the vacation you’ve “been meaning to take.” Register for that conference. Attend that comedy show. Making time now signals to your subconscious that your joy and growth matter. Because they do.

5. Escape Into a Book—Midday

Keep a book nearby that feeds your spirit or sparks your creativity. Read just a few pages during a break. Even 5 minutes can transport you—and recharge your mental battery.

Here’s the Shift: You Don’t “Find” Time. You Make It.

Normalize taking care of your mind, body, and spirit while you work

Instead of pouring from an empty cup and waiting until 7 p.m. (or later) to refill it, make it a habit to integrate personal care into your workdays.

It’s not selfish—it’s strategic.

It fuels your leadership.

It protects your well-being. It reminds you that you are not a machine. You are a whole human.

When you shift from chasing balance to creating integration, things begin to change. Not overnight, but gradually—and powerfully. Try one thing today. Then tomorrow. Before you know it, this new rhythm becomes second nature. You deserve to lead a life that sustains you—not just one that looks impressive on LinkedIn.

And it starts with one small shift. Today.
